About the Department
The Department of Educational and Psychological Sciences was established in 1993. Admission is open to graduates of secondary schools (both scientific and literary branches), in addition to in-service teachers on study leave. The department is dedicated to preparing specialists in the fields of Educational Psychology, Teaching Methods, Developmental Psychology, Personality Psychology, Educational and Psychological Counseling, and Educational Administration.

Graduates of the department are awarded a Bachelor’s degree in Education and Psychology. Moreover, the department offers postgraduate studies (M.A. and Ph.D.), which are organized into two main groups, further subdivided into specialized fields as follows:

First: The Psychological Group

Educational Psychology

Second: The Educational Group

Vision

The Department of Educational and Psychological Sciences at the College of Education for Humanities / University of Tikrit, within the next five years, aspires to achieve quality and excellence and to attain a distinguished position on the map of higher education in its various domains (teaching, scientific research, community service, and environmental development). The department is committed to graduating students capable of competing in the labor market by providing a distinguished environment for teaching and learning, as well as an atmosphere that fosters both theoretical and applied scientific research.

Furthermore, the department seeks to expand in the fields of its major and minor specializations in educational and psychological sciences, in response to the growing needs of universities, colleges, directorates of education, research centers, and other governmental institutions within the province and across Iraq.

Mission

Department Objectives

The Department of Educational and Psychological Sciences is one of the key departments that contributes to the preparation and development of human resources. It seeks to achieve essential aspects of the overarching goals of the educational system, the objectives of higher education, and the mission of colleges of education, all within the framework of the state’s central philosophy.

The specific educational objectives of the department can be articulated across the following dimensions:

First: The Cognitive Dimension

To prepare students academically, professionally, and culturally, enabling them to acquire knowledge of educational and psychological facts, concepts, and theories, and to comprehend the fundamental principles that qualify them for teaching, scientific research, and educational and psychological counseling in institutions of the Ministry of Education, as well as other social, psychological, and educational institutions.
To enable students to apply scientific methods in addressing real-life and professional problems and situations, while developing their ability to analyze such methods and evaluate them against established criteria.
To prepare graduates for advanced studies, equipping them to engage with new scientific developments in educational and psychological sciences, and to master research methodologies.
To strengthen scientific collaboration with educational and social institutions by organizing seminars, workshops, training courses, and continuing education programs related to educational and psychological sciences.

Second: The Affective Dimension

To help students acquire positive attitudes and values aligned with Arab cultural traditions, the principles of Islam, and other divine religions, guiding them toward the highest levels of intellectual and psychological maturity.
To nurture students’ attitudes, interests, and motivations, while developing their competencies in teaching, research, and educational and psychological counseling, in order to confront contemporary challenges, cultural change, and the problems of modern life.
To cultivate and reinforce ethical values, particularly in teaching, research, and counseling, while preventing the misuse of their professional responsibilities in educational and psychological fields.

Third: The Psychomotor (Skills) Dimension

To enable students to acquire the essential skills required for teaching, research, and educational and psychological counseling, and to further develop these skills for successful professional practice and effective problem-solving in real-life contexts.
To promote among students and community members the acquisition of self-learning skills, broaden their intellectual horizons, and enhance their competencies so that they can independently access and benefit from sources of knowledge and culture.
