Overview

  • The Department of History at the College of Education, Tikrit University, was established in 1992.

  • The first cohort of morning studies graduated in the academic year 1995–1996. Up to now, the department has graduated 17 cohorts from the morning program.

  • Evening studies were introduced in 1994, with 15 cohorts graduated so far.

  • Postgraduate studies in Islamic History (M.A.) were initiated in 1996.

  • Postgraduate studies in Modern History (M.A.) were launched in 1998.

  • Postgraduate studies in Islamic History (Ph.D.) were introduced in 2001.

  • Postgraduate studies in Modern History (Ph.D.) were initiated in 2008.

  • The department has graduated 182 M.A. students in Islamic and Modern History.

  • The department has graduated 55 Ph.D. students in Islamic and Modern History.

Objectives

  • To provide the Ministry of Education with qualified staff capable of teaching history in intermediate and secondary schools.

  • To graduate a generation of young people who embody the ethics and methodology of the righteous predecessors, including prophets, companions, and followers.

  • To award students in the undergraduate program a Bachelor’s degree in History, qualifying them to teach at intermediate and secondary schools.

  • To award postgraduate students M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in Islamic and Modern History, qualifying them to teach at universities and institutes as well as to conduct historical research and studies in their fields of specialization.

  • To engage with society by organizing conferences and scientific symposia, reminding current generations of the glories of their ancestors, and drawing lessons from the ordeals and setbacks of the nation to build a better future.

  • To foster continuous cooperation and interaction with other departments of the college and university, as well as with other universities domestically and internationally across various fields

Vision

Vision of the Department of History

  • Establish a suitably sized historical laboratory containing maps, archaeological illustrations, historical documents, and plaster models of Iraqi civilizations, in addition to equipment for displaying historical films and global documentaries.

  • Activate and enhance academic missions for participation in conferences and scientific seminars held outside Iraq, allocating the necessary funds for this purpose. Additionally, send faculty members to Arab and international universities to review curricula, modern teaching methods, and to foster academic collaboration.
