About the Department of History

The Department of History at the College of Education, University of Tikrit, was established in 1992. Since its inception, the department has worked on developing its academic and scientific programs to meet the requirements of higher education and the needs of society. The department graduated its first cohort from the morning study program in the academic year 1995-1996, and to date, a total of 30 cohorts have graduated from the morning program. The evening study program was launched in 1994, with 28 cohorts having graduated so far.

In the field of postgraduate studies, the department has gradually expanded: the Master’s program in Islamic History was launched in 1996, followed by the Master’s program in Modern History in 1998. Regarding the PhD programs, the department began offering a PhD in Islamic History in 2001, and later expanded to include Modern History in 2008.

To date, the Department of History has graduated 13 cohorts from the Master’s programs in both Islamic and Modern History, and 7 cohorts from the PhD programs in the same specializations, reflecting the department’s prominent role in preparing qualified academic personnel to contribute to research, teaching, and community service.
