Department of Qur’anic Sciences and Islamic Education

Department Overview
The Department was established in the academic year 2003/2004. Its primary aim is to prepare male and female teachers capable of reading, reciting, and interpreting the Holy Qur’an, as well as understanding its meanings. The Department awards a Bachelor’s degree and a Master’s degree in Qur’anic Sciences, and a PhD in Jurisprudence, its Principles, and the Fundamentals of Religion.
Department Vision
The Department of Qur’anic Sciences and Islamic Education aims to achieve excellence in teaching and research in Sharia sciences and their various branches, keeping pace with contemporary scientific and global developments in the field. The Department strives to prepare graduates with comprehensive academic knowledge and equip them with the technical skills necessary to succeed in their roles as specialists in all areas of Sharia sciences, enabling them to work efficiently across various sectors of the state’s social activities.
Furthermore, the Department seeks to contribute actively to university and community service, address societal challenges, and promote Sharia knowledge while fostering awareness among the unified Iraqi society. Key aspects of this vision include:
- Activating the role of the Department of Qur’anic Sciences and Islamic Education within the university to serve students and the broader civil community.
- Organizing additional scientific meetings, specialized seminars, and workshops for educational institutions and participating in conferences and seminars both within and outside the university.
- Establishing a Qur’anic Recitations Center through a sound laboratory and enhancing its role at both national and international levels.
- Providing numerous lectures and seminars free of charge to mosques throughout the governorate.
