A Master’s Thesis at the College of Education for Humanities Discusses “A Pragma-Syntactic Study of Reference Shift in the Glorious Qur’an with Reference to English”

A master’s thesis was discussed at the Department of English, College of Education for Humanities at University of Tikrit on Thursday (March 12, 2026). The thesis, submitted by the student Manar Ahmed Mahmoud Al-Majma’i, was entitled:

“A Pragma-Syntactic Study of Reference Shift in the Glorious Qur’an with Reference to English.”

The study examines the phenomenon of reference shift in the Qur'an from a pragma-syntactic perspective, highlighting how shifts in reference and address contribute to the richness of meaning and rhetorical expression in Qur’anic discourse. The research also provides references to the English language in order to clarify the linguistic and pragmatic aspects associated with such shifts.
