”The College of Education for Humanities, Department of Arabic Language, discussed on Monday (16 February 2026) the Master’s thesis submitted by the student Ban Hussein Salloum, entitled “Aesthetic Values among the Second-Tier Poets in Tabaqat Fuhul al-Shu‘ara’ by Ibn Sallam al-Jumahi (d. 231 AH).”
The thesis examined the aesthetic principles articulated in Tabaqat Fuhul al-Shu‘ara’, focusing on the poets classified within the second tier by Ibn Sallam al-Jumahi. The study analyzed the critical standards and artistic criteria employed in evaluating their poetic production, highlighting the dimensions of eloquence, imagery, structure, and thematic depth. It further explored the methodological framework adopted by Ibn Sallam in distinguishing poetic ranks and assessing literary merit within the broader context of early Arabic literary criticism.
