The College of Education for Humanities, Department of Arabic Language, discussed on Sunday (15 February 2026) the Master’s thesis submitted by the student Taybah Nouri Saeed, entitled “Binary Oppositions in the Poetry of ʿUdhri Love Poets: Qays ibn al-Mulawwah and Jamil Buthayna.”
The thesis examined the aesthetic and semantic dimensions of binary oppositions in ʿUdhri love poetry, highlighting their role in shaping poetic imagery and emotional expression. It explored contrasting concepts such as presence and absence, union and separation, hope and despair, and their reflection in the poetic experiences of Qays ibn al-Mulawwah and Jamil Buthayna. The study further analyzed how these oppositional structures contributed to the depth of meaning and the artistic distinctiveness of their poetry within the broader framework of classical Arabic literature.
