A master’s thesis was discussed at the Department of Arabic Language, College of Education for Humanities at University of Tikrit on Sunday (March 8, 2026). The thesis, submitted by the student Marwan Mukhlif Saleh Al-Qaisi, was entitled:
“The Stylistics of Space in the Poetry of Black Poets in the Pre-Islamic Era.”
The present study examines the concept of poetic space in the works of Black poets in the Pre-Islamic period, with a particular focus on how this element was employed within their poetic texts. The notion of space represents one of the fundamental concepts in literary studies, as it intersects with the concept of poetics to form a field rich in aesthetic and semantic meanings.
The study reached several findings, including:
- Black poets employed spatial imagery symbolically, reflecting deeper semantic and symbolic dimensions.
- They utilized temporal space to represent both natural and psychological time.
- Psychological space was used as a means of expressing emotions and inner feelings.
- The linguistic, imagistic, and rhythmic structures of the poems demonstrated coherence and integration.
- Frequent use of figurative imagery, particularly simile, metaphor, and personification.
