Doctoral Dissertation at the College of Education for Humanities Discusses “Beyond the Text: A Pragma-Semiotic Analysis of Green Advertising in English and Arabic”

A doctoral dissertation was defended at the Department of English, College of Education for Humanities, University of Tikrit, on Sunday, June 28, 2026, by the student Fatimah Abdul Ghani Idris, entitled “Beyond the Text: A Pragma-Semiotic Analysis of Green Advertising in English and Arabic.”

The dissertation explores environmental, or "green," advertising through the integrated perspectives of pragmatics and semiotics, examining how linguistic and visual signs interact to communicate persuasive environmental messages in both English and Arabic. The study investigates the relationship between textual and non-textual elements in green advertisements, highlighting the pragmatic strategies and semiotic resources employed to influence audiences and promote environmentally responsible attitudes and behaviors across different linguistic and cultural contexts.
