The Department of History at the College of Education for Humanities held on Tuesday, (30/9/2025), the public defense of the master’s thesis submitted by the student Muhannad Jasim Mahmoud, entitled “The United States Policy toward Yemen 1990–2012.”
The significance of this study lies in addressing a key aspect of U.S. policy toward Yemen from 1990 to 2012, and its role in shaping the bilateral relations between the two countries, in addition to its firm support for Yemeni unity. Moreover, there was a clear harmony between the results of unification that shaped governance and the nature of Yemen, which was politically diverse and moving toward democracy—a principle that the United States has long advocated as a sponsor of democracy worldwide, particularly during a time when authoritarian regimes were in decline following the collapse of the Soviet Union. This orientation influenced the United States in its support for Yemen’s unification.
