M.A. Thesis Defense at the College of Education for Human Sciences on “Thinking Styles According to Herrmann’s Theory and Their Relationship to Decision-Making among Department Heads”

On Sunday, September 14, 2025, the Department of Educational and Psychological Sciences at the College of Education for Human Sciences held the defense of an M.A. thesis by student Mohammed Abd Hammoud Shallal, entitled “Thinking Styles According to Herrmann’s Theory and Their Relationship to Decision-Making among Department Heads.”

The study aimed to:

  1. Identify the thinking styles according to Herrmann’s theory among department heads.

  2. Examine statistically significant differences in thinking styles according to the gender variable (male/female).

  3. Examine statistically significant differences in thinking styles according to the specialization variable (humanities/sciences).

The research sample consisted of 50 scientific and administrative department heads at Tikrit University, randomly selected based on gender and academic specialization.

Key Findings:

  1. The research sample exhibited all four thinking styles of Herrmann’s model, with varying levels of achievement.

  2. Female participants outperformed male participants across all thinking styles.

  3. Participants from humanities specializations exhibited higher levels of Herrmann thinking styles than those from scientific specializations.

  4. The research sample demonstrated a high level of decision-making ability.
