On Tuesday, August 19, 2025, the Master’s thesis of graduate student Ali Mohammed Hussein Al-Jubouri was defended at the Department of Geography, College of Education for Humanities. The thesis is titled:
“The Hydromorphological Assessment of Al-Dibis Dam Lake and Its Environmental Impacts.”

This study addresses the hydromorphological and environmental assessment of Al-Dibis Dam Lake, located in Kirkuk Governorate, northern Iraq, within defined coordinates along the Lower Zab River. Administratively, the lake falls under the jurisdiction of Al-Dibis District and Altun Kupri Subdistrict.

The research focuses on analyzing both the natural and human factors influencing the lake, including geological, topographical, and climatic conditions. The area lies within a transitional climate zone between the Mediterranean and semi-arid climates, with annual rainfall ranging between 288–296 mm and average annual temperatures exceeding 22°C.

The total area of the study region is 106.2 km², while the lake itself covers 6.9 km², with a maximum storage capacity of 58.5 million m³ at an elevation of 254 meters above sea level. During the study period (2015–2024), the average annual inflow was 37,598 m³/s, and the outflow was 38,625 m³/s.
