On Wednesday, September 17, 2025, the Department of Geography at the College of Education for Human Sciences held the defense of the master’s thesis submitted by Ahmed Mahmoud Khalaf, entitled:
“The Functional Region of the University of Fallujah.”

The study aims to analyze the functional role of the University of Fallujah and its local and international impact by examining the numbers of students, faculty members, and staff from Al-Anbar and other provinces, as well as assessing its global presence through international students, visiting academics, and research published in the university’s four journals in collaboration with international researchers. It also focuses on the human and spatial factors that contributed to its development and evaluates the quality of its educational services.

The study reached several key conclusions, including:

  1. The significant role of the human factor in the establishment and success of educational institutions. This influence is evident through its contribution to determining land-use characteristics, population distribution patterns, and density, which directly contributed to the founding of the University of Fallujah.

  2. The University of Fallujah has witnessed remarkable development and steady growth since its opening in the 2014–2015 academic year. The numbers of students, faculty members, and staff have increased compared to those at the time of establishment. In the 2024–2025 academic year, the number of students admitted to undergraduate studies reached 1,951, while the number of graduate students was 175. The teaching staff numbered 552, and the administrative staff reached 492 employees. This growth has encompassed various academic and administrative aspects, reflecting the university’s continuous expansion and development.

  3. Transportation plays a fundamental role in shaping the city’s urban structure. An integrated transportation network enables the city to efficiently perform its functions by facilitating mobility for residents and goods, enhancing dynamic flows within the city, and ensuring effective connectivity with its surrounding region and neighboring areas.
