Under the patronage of the President of Tikrit University, Professor Dr. Waad Mahmoud Raouf, and under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Education for Human Sciences, Professor Dr. Imad Hamid Ahmed, the Department of Arabic Language, in cooperation with the Continuing Education Center, held a scientific seminar entitled “The Concept of Singing in the Abbasid Era” on Monday, 5 January 2026.
The seminar, moderated by Assistant Professor Dr. Ibrahim Hassan Saleh, Assistant Lecturer Zubaida Maher Saleh, and Assistant Lecturer Amani Kanaan Khudair, aimed to shed light on the concept of singing during the Abbasid era, clarify its cultural, literary, and social dimensions, and highlight its role in the development of artistic life at that time. The seminar also discussed the perspectives of critics, jurists, and literary figures on singing, as well as its impact on poetic and literary production in the Abbasid period.
The seminar addressed several scholarly themes that contributed to enriching the historical and literary knowledge of students and researchers. It also featured open discussions and dialogue, enhancing cultural awareness and linking linguistic and literary studies to the broader Islamic civilizational context.
This seminar forms part of a series of scientific activities organized by the College in line with the University’s orientation toward supporting scientific research and developing the intellectual capacities of its students and staff members.
