Under the patronage of the President of University of Tikrit, Professor Dr. Waad Mahmoud Raouf, and the supervision of the Dean of the College of Education for Human Sciences, Professor Dr. Imad Hamid Ahmed, the Department of History at the College, in cooperation with the Continuing Education Center, organized a scientific course entitled “The Crusades: Two Centuries of Motivations and Outcomes” for the period (1–2 March 2026).
The course, delivered by Professor Dr. Thawra Khattab and Assistant Professor Dr. Ziyad Ali, aimed to shed light on the political, religious, and economic backgrounds that contributed to the outbreak of the Crusades. It also examined their historical trajectories spanning nearly two centuries, highlighting their major motivations, declared and undeclared objectives, as well as their outcomes and impacts on both the Islamic and European worlds.
The course further sought to enhance participants’ historical awareness and enable them to approach historical events through a critical and analytical perspective grounded in diverse sources and narratives. This approach contributes to a deeper understanding of the transformations that the region experienced during that historical period and their subsequent civilizational and political implications.
