The College of Education for Humanities, in Cooperation with the Continuing Education Center, Organizes a Scientific Course Entitled “France’s Educational Policy in Tunisia during the Period of the French Protectorate”

Under the patronage of the President of Tikrit University and the supervision of the Dean of the College of Education for Humanities, Professor Dr. Imad Hamid Ahmed, the Department of History at the College, in cooperation with the Continuing Education Center, is organizing a scientific course entitled “France’s Educational Policy in Tunisia during the Period of the French Protectorate” for the period March 29–30, 2026.

The course aims to shed light on the educational policy adopted by France in Tunisia during the period of the protectorate, highlighting its intellectual and cultural dimensions, and examining its impact on Tunisian national identity. It also seeks to analyze the mechanisms through which colonial powers employed education to serve their political objectives. Furthermore, the course addresses the repercussions of these policies on the educational and social landscape, as well as the major forms of cultural resistance that confronted attempts of cultural erasure and westernization.

The course includes several themes, among them: the emergence of the educational system in Tunisia during the colonial era, the objectives of French educational policy, the role of educational institutions in disseminating French culture, and the impact of these policies on the social and cultural structure of Tunisian society.

This course is organized within the framework of the College’s efforts to enhance students’ historical awareness, develop their research skills, and open new academic horizons that contribute to a rigorous and analytical understanding of historical experiences.
